Education Innovation Laboratory
The Education Innovation Laboratory (financed by The Ministry of Education and Science, and implemented by Riga Business School) is launching three programs in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) specifically through The Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab (J-WEL).
The main objective of the Education Innovation Laboratory is to to increase the capacity of the leadership of the institutions of higher education, private sector, and public administration in the management of international cooperation, research, and innovations. Through these programs, leaders will gain competencies in the following areas: innovation ecosystem development, innovation planning, strategic university governance, digitalization initiatives, multi-stakeholder cooperation management, and much more. Throughout these programs, there will be many opportunities for collaboration between the programs’ participants, as these individuals come from various spheres of influence, as well as for goal-oriented networking to bring these innovative ideas to life. The end goal is to see that these leaders will be well-equipped, and to see different projects and initiatives become implemented in Latvia to support the higher education system as well as different areas within this society.
Ecosystem Innovation Project Management Program
Ecosystem Innovation Project Management Program
This program is designed for leaders within Latvia’s government, business, and educational sector who have concrete plans on how they would like to support Latvia’s higher education system through innovation. Beginning in May of 2023 the leaders who have been accepted to this program are equipped with global best practices that have been proven to be effective in the implementation of innovation initiatives. The program is marked by a visit to our partners, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in Boston, USA. Three key focus areas in this program are strategy, innovation, and technology but with an explicit emphasis on how these can be implemented in Latvia. Bringing these three unique spheres together will not only provide opportunities for collaboration but will also allow for the key stakeholders to be on an even playing field that is full of out-come oriented leaders and individuals who are working towards similar goals.
Strategic Ecosystem Management Program
Strategic Ecosystem Management Program
Leaders of the education sector, state administration, and businesses have a vital role in the direction of innovation and have the opportunity to largely impact not only the institution that they are a part of, but society as a whole. Providing access to global practice, this leadership program equips these top-level leaders to the best practices for structuring of management, financing, stakeholder engagement, and interaction of innovation initiatives at various levels. Our partner, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is a great example of a stakeholder involved in the creation of the innovation ecosystem that has made Boston, USA the place that it is today. Our trip to Boston will allow these program participants to see and experience that first-hand. We believe that Latvia has the potential to reach new heights and that this change of thinking can greatly support the creation of a similar innovation ecosystem in our local context, and this program is directly involved in that.

Strategic Education Innovation Project Support Program
Designed to support the implementation of ambitious education innovation projects, the goal of the program is to introduce Latvia’s science-based university teams to the latest trends in the strategic development of higher education, to provide support in conducting situation analysis, defining strategic goals, developing a project implementation plan, and structuring the roles of the involved parties. With a large support from our collaborators at Massachusetts Institute of Technology as well as various key local experts, these teams will be challenged to take these initiatives to the next level while being equipped with global best practices and the support necessary to make these ideas become reality. Each of these teams are being mentored by both Latvian and MIT experts to challenge and support the implementation of their projects and will spend an intensive week at MIT to develop their projects.
