Empowering STEM: Bridging the Gap in Education and Career Readiness

The European Commission and EU Programming Week Ambassadors are inviting young people between the ages of 15 and 19 to participate in an international online hackathon taking place on September 30th and October 1st. During this hackathon, participants will collaborate in teams to enhance their coding skills and develop a solution within a 24-hour timeframe. The objective is to inspire an interest in STEM subjects among young individuals and motivate them to pursue careers in these fields.

Throughout the hackathon, participants will benefit from the guidance of experienced mentors, engage in workshops, and present their solutions to a panel of judges. The top three teams will receive cash prizes sponsored by Riga Business School: the first-place winners will be awarded EUR 1200, the second-place winners EUR 600, and the third-place winners EUR 200. The winning team from this hackathon will have the opportunity to pitch their solution to a European jury and compete against five other finalists from Albania, France, Greece, Ireland, and Italy.

To get involved, here’s what you need to do:

  1. On September 18th at 16:00, we invite everyone to attend an informative seminar about the hackathon. During the seminar, you’ll hear from students who have already achieved success in previous CodeWeek hackathons and competitions. They will provide insights into what a hackathon is and why you should participate. You can access the seminar application by clicking here, and a recording of the seminar will be available on the Datorium YouTube channel.
  2. Register for the hackathon by September 28th. You can register individually or as part of a team. A team should consist of 5-6 members. Once registered, students will have the opportunity to share ideas and form teams.

The EU Programming Week hackathons are organized by the European Commission and local EU Programming Week Ambassadors. The Latvian national hackathon is supported by the National Centre for Education Content, youth coding schools “Datorium” and “Learn IT,” as well as Riga Business School as a unit of RTU.
