Iluta Lāce

EMBA Alumna, Class 2012
Founder and Director of the Association “MARTA Centre” gender expert

What are your success habits?

I am a visionary, and I challenge discriminatory habits and systems, I do things to break through them, change them, and call people to join in this path. People say that I never lose my optimism and hope for success. If there are obstacles on the way, they are there to get over them.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Continue to be courageous!

What are you most proud of?

During whatever times, MARTA Centre is open for women that suffer from violence and trafficking for sexual exploitation and that I have a great team – board, staff and volunteers supporting victims, doing advocacy work and managing prevention programs for youth.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

I don’t iron my clothes. I usually use the steam of a hot shower for them to iron themselves or hang them on the balcony on rainy days.

What have you always wanted to try, but have never found the time to actually do it?

Dancing

What is your current challenge or goal?

My goal is to ensure that the MARTA Centre is sustainable without my direct involvement in operations so that I could focus more on development projects in Central Asia, Belarus, Ukraine etc.

What are your hobbies or activities to relax?

Walking in the woods, swimming in the sea, lakes or rivers. Making music with friends and family.

How do you push through your worst times?

I take a deep breath, drink a cup of tea and solve the problems.

What books do you read currently and which would you suggest to us?

One book that I really enjoyed reading was Birds Without Wings. It is a novel by Louis de Bernières. The special charm was being at that time in the area of Izmir where all the events took place a century ago.

What mobile apps do you use in your everyday life and would suggest them to us?

Electronic signature.
