Corporate Governance
Latvia’s recent accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) marks a significant milestone in the country’s development. To support this achievement, Latvia has introduced reforms to the governance process for state-owned enterprises, as well as changes for the private sector. This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Corporate Governance, both from an international and Latvian perspective, preparing them for roles as corporate directors in public, private, and state-owned enterprises.
By utilizing case studies, research, and discussions, this course seeks to achieve specific objectives, including
- Applying the principles of corporate governance, oversight, and control
- Distinguishing between governance, management, internal control, and stakeholder interests
- Implementing governance structures across public, private, non-governmental, and state-owned enterprises
- Evaluating an organization’s level of corporate governance based on corporate reporting, published financial reports, and other information
- Understanding the significance of corporate governance concepts such as corporate social responsibility and ethics in decision-making processes
To ensure that the course content is relevant to the Latvian business environment, we will examine current best practices in Europe and North America and explore how these can be adopted in Latvia. By the end of the course, students will have a deep understanding of corporate governance principles and how they can be practically applied in various organizational settings.
