Riga Business School (RBS), a structural unit of Riga Technical University, has extended its partnership with ACAMS, the global certification association for anti-money laundering professionals, for another two years. This extension allows RBS to continue offering training for the internationally recognized CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) and CGSS (Certified Global Sanctions Specialist) certificates. By doing so, RBS strenghtens its role as one of the key providers of AML and international sanctions training in the region.
As one of the leading partners in the region, RBS has been working with ACAMS since 2017 to train professionals whose work is related to the detection and prevention of financial crime. ACAMS is the largest international organization promoting knowledge and skills development in AML, Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) and sanctions compliance. The renewed agreement provide an opportunity to continue training professionals who play a key role in the financial and law enforcement sectors.
RBS offers Anti-Money Laundering (AML) specialist training courses aimed at helping candidates achieve the CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) certification. The training is six weeks long and is delivered in a hybrid format, both face-to-face and online. The training covers in depth topics such as money laundering and terrorist financing typologies, risks, counter-terrorism techniques and international standards. In addition, participants have the opportunity to consult a certified trainer and share their experiences with other professionals in the field.
In addition to the CAMS courses, RBS also offers the Certified Global Sanctions Specialist (CGSS) training course. The course is designed for professionals working in areas such as financial services, IT, import/export, logistics and legal advice. The aim of the course is to provide participants with knowledge of sanctions regimes, their implementation, sanctions risk management and the potential consequences of non-compliance. The course is also structured in 6 modules.
To qualify for the CAMS and CGSS courses, candidates must meet the requirements set by ACAMS and achieve at least 40 points in the ACAMS application assessment. These points may be obtained on the basis of education, work experience in AML, sanctions or equivalent fields and participation in specialized training.
Inese Muzikante, Interim Director, Riga Business School: “On 30 September this year, a new group of 16 participants started their training in the AML Specialist Course. Over the next six weeks, they will move purposefully towards the CAMS certificate. The group includes representatives from both local companies and international organizations, including banks, special financial services and accounting firms. Since 2017, 211 participants have attended the RBS AML and Sanctions Specialist Courses, representing both public and private sector organisations. During the training, participants acquire not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills that are essential for their day-to-day work in financial crime prevention, while also preparing for the certification exam.”
Mārcis Senkēvičs, Chief Tax Inspector of The First transaction Monitoring Unit, Anti-Money Laundering Department Chief Tax Inspector, SRS: “The preparatory course organized by RBS was very helpful in passing the exam, especially as both the course and the exam are in English. During the sessions there was an opportunity to share experiences, ask questions and gain insight into the nuances of the exam. The trainer shared the latest trends and helped us prepare for the exam.”
Applications are open for the Certified Global Sanctions Specialist (CGSS) course until 7 January 2025, with the course starting on 28 January 2025. The next group for the Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (CAMS) course will begin in March 2025, and the application deadline is 19 February 2025.
