Crisis Management In Business

Even the best-managed organizations can face a crisis. Management quality is often assessed not by whether a crisis occurs, but by how successfully it is handled. A crisis can become a defining moment in a leader’s career — opening the door to further growth or prompting the pursuit of new professional directions.

The ability to manage and successfully navigate crisis situations is one of the most important competencies for leaders and their teams. These skills should be continuously developed to ensure both the long-term resilience of the organization and the professional reputation of its leaders.

Course Objective

This course is designed to provide business leaders and key staff with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills for effective crisis management. The goal of the course is to provide an overview of crisis management principles, methods, and best practices, as well as to offer the opportunity to strengthen skills by participating in simulated crisis scenarios.

1. Introduction
  • Examples of crisis situations, main causes, types, and categories.
  • What is and what is not a crisis?
  • Common features of different crises.
2. Operational Crisis Management 
  • Response to threats, psychological aspects.
  • Crisis management stages.
  • Challenges in decision-making.
  • Role of the crisis management team.
3. Crisis Communication
  • Communication stages during a crisis.
  • Internal and external communication.
  • Basic principles of media operations.
  • Communication priorities.
4. Practical Exercise
  • Group simulation of a hypothetical crisis scenario.
  • Result analysis and feedback.

Participants will gain insights into crisis management principles, methods and best practices, while also having the opportunity to apply these skills through simulated crisis exercises.

The course is structured in two modules, each combining theoretical knowledge with practical exercises to allow participants to immediately apply what they learn.

Module I: Crisis Preparedness

    • The crisis management cycle and its key elements
  2. Risk Management
    • Understanding risk and how it differs from a crisis
    • Steps for risk identification, analysis, and mitigation
  3. Ensuring Preparedness
    • Developing and maintaining a crisis management plan
    • Establishing a business continuity plan
  4. Practical Exercise
    • Developing a hypothetical crisis management and business continuity plan in teams
    • Analyzing results and providing feedback

Module II: Crisis Recovery

  1. Crisis Recognition and Response Stages
    • Early warning signs of a crisis
    • Stages of crisis management and typical problem situations
    • Decision-making dilemmas and methods to resolve them
  2. Crisis Communication
    • Communication structure during a crisis
    • Principles of internal and external communication
    • Priorities and common mistakes
  3. Practical Exercise
    • Simulated crisis scenario exercises in groups
