Ivars Krampis-Vanags is a data analysis expert with more than 20 years of experience in Microsoft Excel and Power BI. He is the founder of Excel Know How and a partner of AI Master Lab, has taught at Estonian Business School and University of Latvia’s Management and Entrepreneurship Learning Center and has trained more than 3000 students. Ivars has been delivering Power BI training since 2018, providing practical knowledge that helps companies make effective decisions.

Course Description

This course empowers users to fully harness Power BI for advanced data analysis, DAX calculations, and visualization. Participants will dive into key features, such as data modeling and automation, to improve workflows, create dynamic reports, and extract valuable insights. The course equips learners with hands-on skills to transform raw data into actionable information that drives informed decisions and enhances business performance. Upon completion, participants will confidently use Power BI for in-depth analysis, effectively communicate insights to stakeholders, and help foster a data-driven culture within their organizations.

Prerequisites

  • Basic knowledge of Power BI (importing data, creating basic visualizations, DAX basics).
  • Understanding of the principles of data analysis and visualization.
  • Basic knowledge of Excel and/or other data analysis tools is preferred.

Teaching methods used:

  • Interactive theoretical lessons with practical examples.
  • Group discussions and joint problem solving.
  • Practical tasks in the Power BI environment with tutor consultations.
  • Short case studies and problem solving using real data.
  • Presentations and reviews of the individual projects of the participants.

Optimization of data processing
Efficient data import and transformation.
Data cleaning and preparation for rapid analysis.
Data Model Optimization: Building and Adjusting Relationships.
Building an automated data flow with Power Query.

Topic 2

Improved data analysis with DAX
Advanced use of DAX functions to perform complex calculations.
Creating measures and columns to customize analysis results.
Filtering and sorting data with DAX.
Practical tasks with application of DAX formulas.

Topic 3

Creation of dynamic and interactive reports
Types of advanced visualizations and how to customize them.
Adding interactive elements to reports (cross filters, parameters).
Working with “Bookmarks” and “Drillthrough” functions.
Creating user-friendly and transparent dashboards.

Topic 4

Report publication and optimization
Publish a report to Power BI Service and share with colleagues.
Setting up automated report and dashboard updates.
Optimization of reports and dashboards for more convenient operation.
