SUMMARY:Riga Puzzle Day
DESCRIPTION:07.11.2024. \nFantadroms\, Gustava Zemgala Gatve 76\, Riga \nRiga Puzzle Day is a logic game adapted from Harvard University\, where it has already become a tradition. During the game\, both students and pupils are invited to solve the most challenging logic puzzles using their creativity and problem-solving skills. The tasks are designed to be fun and engaging\, encouraging participants to think critically and apply their knowledge of logic. \n\n  \nRiga 10-12th graders\, representing their school in teams of 2-3 students\, are invited to participate in the first Puzzle Day in Latvia. Students will be given ten logic problems to solve in three hours. Each task has only one correct answer\, and that is one word. Students can use the internet to complete the tasks. The team with the most correct answers in the shortest time wins the game. The three teams with the highest scores will receive prizes from the sponsors of the game. \n  \nThrough this initiative\, Riga Municipality and Riga Business School\, in cooperation with Luminor and Balcia\, want to encourage more young people to: \n\nDevelop problem-solving and creative thinking in students;\nEngage students in solving logic problems as a basis for further learning of programming;\nEncourage students’ collaborative problem-solving skills;\nTo stimulate students’ interest in information technology and programming.\n\n  \nTo emphasise that computer science is not just about programming\, but about problem solving\, none of the tasks require programming experience. \nSee a sample task\n  \nWhile students solve the logic problems\, teachers will have the opportunity to attend informative and engaging sessions to enhance their personal and professional competences. \n  \nAgenda: \n9:00-9:30 Registration and refreshments \n9:30-9:45 Opening \n9:45-10:00 Instruction on tasks \n10:00-13:00 Task solving / Teacher sessions \n13:00-14:00 Entertainment stands from event sponsors (while the results are being compiled) \n14:00-14:45 Explanation of correct answers \n14:45-15:15 Announcement of results and awards \n  \nInformation about the logic game has been sent to all secondary schools in Riga. SUMMARY:Empowering STEM
DESCRIPTION:Empowering STEM: Bridging the Gap in Education and Career Readiness \nThe European Commission and EU Programming Week Ambassadors are inviting young people between the ages of 15 and 19 to participate in an international online hackathon taking place on September 30th and October 1st. During this hackathon\, participants will collaborate in teams to enhance their coding skills and develop a solution within a 24-hour timeframe. The objective is to inspire an interest in STEM subjects among young individuals and motivate them to pursue careers in these fields. \nThroughout the hackathon\, participants will benefit from the guidance of experienced mentors\, engage in workshops\, and present their solutions to a panel of judges. The top three teams will receive cash prizes sponsored by Riga Business School: the first-place winners will be awarded EUR 1200\, the second-place winners EUR 600\, and the third-place winners EUR 200. The winning team from this hackathon will have the opportunity to pitch their solution to a European jury and compete against five other finalists from Albania\, France\, Greece\, Ireland\, and Italy. \nTo get involved\, here’s what you need to do: \n\nOn September 18th at 16:00\, we invite everyone to attend an informative seminar about the hackathon. They will provide insights into what a hackathon is and why you should participate. You can access the seminar application by clicking here\, and a recording of the seminar will be available on the Datorium YouTube channel.\nRegister for the hackathon by September 28th. You can register individually or as part of a team. A team should consist of 5-6 members.
